Any subject worth doing is a challenge. Personally I find some aspects of microbiology hard, and other bits easy. The bits I may find hard, other people find easy, and the bits I find easy, other people may find hard. We all have particular strengths.
In microbiology, much of the work is very labour intensive, so some aspects of this I don’t find so much hard as rather annoying! My area of specialism is molecular genetics, which means I look at the guts of bacteria most of the time – this is an area that most microbiologist think is ‘hard’, but is an area that I find easy and logical 😉
