you can do it. Being a scientist is just about curious, being enthusiastic and having the determination to keep asking questions. I would urge you to study hard, but also explore the world around. I always say being a scientist is like being an explorer. Start your exploration. Seek out scientists in your area to learn about research opportunities. The best part about being a scientist is encouraging others to think about science- good luck and god speed!
Keep an open mind, and never tell yourself (or let anyone tell you) that there is an area of science you can’t do. There is so much to explore in science and there is room for a lot more. Don’t try to specialise too soon, you will always find that the more you study any given area of science, the more new and different disciplines you will discover that you had never heard of before. If I’d told my 14 year old self that I would be a bacterial geneticist one day I would have laughed, and asked what on Earth one of those was!
Read plenty of popular science books too, there are plenty in the libraries – these can be very inspirational 😉
I agree with Liz, it’s all about enthusiasm. If you really enjoy learning about something then it’s easy to study hard and get the grades you need. If you work hard enough and enjoy science there is no reason why you can’t be a scientist.
Also it’s worth bearing in mind that there are lots of different types of scientists who do slightly different things in their day to day work and research different subjects. So you don’t have to be good at everything, find the thing that’s right for you and go for it! 🙂
