I get paid a salary each month, and it’s certainly a lot more than I got as a student when I was training to be a scientist. But saries tend to vary depending on what type of science business you work for (government, big industry, university), and where you live. Whilst we don’t get paid as much as bankers or other financial professions (or even scientists doing the same type of work in other European countries), it’s more than enough for my needs 😉

I’m a PhD student which means for the amount of hours I put in we get paid peanuts.. but as I have mentioned in some of my other posts I certainly don’t do this for the dinero. I love it and I have fun doing it. As a result of my dedication to science I have been incredibly fortunate to receive several scholarships covering my college, master’s and PhD career. I also get to travel (for free) all over to attend conferences so there’s definitely a lot of perks to being a scientist.
