      Actually I don’t. I think if there are ways to avoid animal testing then they should be used instead. But if animal testing is the only option (and a lot of the time this is the case) then it should be to explore a worthwhile problem. The benefit to society must outweigh the cost to the animal.

      Personally I’d rather go without cosmetics!

      I’m with Amelia on this one. I accept animal research for *medical* issues as being warranted where there is no alternative, but I totally disagree with it for cosmetic products.

      If people are so eager for skin foundation or lipstick, let people be the ones it’s tried on. If people’s lives don’t depend on it, I don’t see why animals should be made to suffer for it.

      In any case, often it’s not necessary as we have detailed toxicity and sensitivity data for many of the chemicals that go into such cosmetics (unfortunately many of them once upon a time tested on animals), and most cosmetics contain pretty much the same stuff, so a few human testers are all that are required, and often with little risk.
