Hmm- yes and no. I make sure to hit the beach and escape from the lab to recharge a bit every now and again. However, a lot of being a scientist is thinking- so even when I’m away from my work my mind always tends to wonder back in that direction. I like it- so I’m not complaining 😉

I usually manage to take weekends off and the occasional short holiday but it really depends how your work is going. If you have to get some results for a talk you are giving or if things are going well I work as much as I can.

Like Liz said you can find it hard to switch off as new ideas are always popping into your head. I know a lot of scientists that keep notepads by their beds in case a great idea comes to them during the night 🙂

Yes! I have taken today (Monday) off to enjoy some sun back home in the Lake District.

I probably don’t take as many holidays as I’d like, but when I go to overseas conferences I often add a few days on to the end to enjoy wherever it is we’re having the conference – I did this in Madrid, Spain a few weeks ago.
