Nothing serious in the lab. I work w/ a lot of dangerous chemicals and I try to be as safe as possible. Not only for my own health but for the safety of my labmates- I love those guys and wouldn’t ever want anything to happen to them. In college I played rugby and broke my face- my nose, my cheek it wasn’t pretty.
Fortunately not. Although I did burn myself a bit on the reallt hot bit of my device…ooops!
Like Liz says we sometimes work with dangerous things. You need to know why they are dangerous and how to work safely both for yourself and for others.
Oh bad luck Liz! I always joke to people to watch they don’t break their face, but I guess you did :-/
I have burnt myself on a Bunsen, got cold-burn from the -80C freezer, and once walked into a door while focusing on something else. A project student of mine also once dropped a fairly dangerous chemical that happens to be one of the more smellier substances known to man, and we all had to leave the lab. It’s not bad for 11 years working in a lab!
These are all pretty exception though – given the potential hazards of lab work, we manage to minimise the risks considerably, so rarely injure ourselves.
What about you? Have you had any spectacular injuries? 😉
Nothing too serious thankfully – although I’ve had a few accidents with centrifuges that spin very fast and can be dangerous. I’ve also been bitten by mice, which hurts more than you might think 🙂

Jim – ouchhh! and no i havent, i havent like broken any bones or anything but i have had quite a few near death expreinces
