I haven’t seen an alien craft, but I’ve seen flying objects that I couldn’t readily identify, but just because I can’t identify them, doesn’t mean that someone else couldn’t. There are plenty of things I look at in the lab every day that make perfect sense to me, but wouldn’t to anyone else.

I do believe in aliens; I think there are hundreds of worlds out there in the universe that may have life on them. The life may be very basic, not so different from our own bacteria, but I would imagine their inner workings are quite different. I also think there may well be intelligent life out there – after all the universe is just so impossibly enormous, just about anything is possible. However, I don’t believe we will ever contact another intelligent race, nor do I think they will visit us. Again, because of the size of the universe, the light from any alien world may have taken a million years to get to us, which means we will be looking at an image of that planet a million years ago – any civilisation there may have long-gone on the actual planet itself.

Also, as the science fiction author Douglas Adams pointed out in his book The Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy, who is to say that an alien species would exist at the same size scale as us? We assume they would be roughly our size, maybe a little bigger, maybe a little smaller, but size is very dependent on the evolutionary history of your own planet. So he tells the tale of a great and powerful technologically superior race that decides to come and destroy Earth. They build great ships and travel through folds in space to get to Earth, and just before they land their space-crafts on the ground, the entire fleet is eaten by a dog.

Scale is therefore an important consideration 😉

I haven’t but I’m not sure how I would know it was an alien air craft even if I did see one. Like Jim I believe that it’s very likely that there is life (of some sort) on other planets but as to what it looks like and if it would visit us…who knows.

I haven’t but congrats to you that’s pretty cool. The galaxy is a big giant place and it’d be naive to think we are all alone here but the who, what, and where the other lifeforms are is something I don’t even really know how to think about.
