In a round-about kind of way I guess that’s what my main aim is – to develop new and or improved treatments for disorders that cause blindness. We don’t usually think of them as medicines as they’re modified viruses, but they can be called medicines as they’d be given to patients to help improve their symptoms! As of yet none of them have gotten beyond the lab, but there’s always time!
That’s the goal! I’m hoping to use my research to gain a better understanding of the genes that contribute to cancer progression and figure out what they look like- with this information I hope we can design better ways to treat and diagnose cancer. It hasn’t happened yet but it’s what I am working towards and why I work so hard!
Great question. That’s what I’m working towards- hopefully discovering a new way to treat or diagnose cancer. I’ve made several attempts at new drugs but nothing has been effective at selectively killing cancer cells and leaving the healthy cells- well healthy. That’s a main issue in cancer treatment these days- trying to discover agents that only harm the tumor cells and leave the normal cells alone- it’s a work in progress but we’re making strides!
