It is a bit different in the way that at university things are a bit more complicated but you are building on what you have learnt at school.

The real difference is that the learning style changes. At school you are given information is the best way for you to learn and you are given all the information you need in lessons. At university (depending on how good your lecturer is) you are given information but not always in the clearest way so some of it you will understand and some you won’t. It’s up to you to read books and papers after lecturers to help you understand more and to fill in any gaps in your knowledge. In the lectures you are only really given the basics of the topic and you are expected to read further into it in your own time.

The other difference is what you learn at school is generally well established. People have known how these things work for years and it is more fact than theory. The further you go in university the closer you get to the cutting edge of research, things that have only just been discovered and things people still aren’t sure of.

Although these things are quite different from school I think it makes learning a lot more exciting and interesting! I liked biology at school but I LOVED it at university.
