No definitely not! In fact I’d make sure that the cure was given out to patients for free (although i’m not sure where we’d get the money from to make it…). Drugs are very expensive things to make and a lot fail the testing stages before they get put on sale so it’s understandable they cost a lot of money. But I think if they can save lives then they should be as cheap as possible.

Yes, definitely with Amelia on this one, if I was in a position to find a cure for a type of cancer, then I think finding one would only spur me on to do more work to take what we’d learned from finding one cure and seeing if it could help us find cures/treatments for other types of cancer. There are many ways of making money, but the feeling of discovering a treatment that makes people better would be priceless.

Just like Amelia and Jim, I am not into science to make money…
It seems pretty unlikely that my current research area would lead to a cure for cancer but if I stumbled on something I’d do my best to share it with everybody as quickly as possible.
This is a really exciting aspect of science today – the internet is a great way to share information, collaborate and and get experiments done quickly. I am hopeful that this will lead to more rapid scientific progress, and perhaps a cure for cancer sooner than we might think!

No way jose. I have seen first hand how destructive cancer is to a person and their family. My whole life is dedicated to finding a cure for this disease- not for fame, not for wealth, but so that people (patients and their families) don’t have to go through the devastation that cancer causes. People deserve the chance to live life to the fullest- cancer tries to rob people of that- and I take serious offense. If you guys are up for it- maybe together we can finally rid the world of this horrible disease.

As with the other scientists here, I don’t think the money would enter into it – so many people would benefit from such a significant treatment that it should be made available to all. Of course developing drugs takes time, effort, expertise (which all mean money), but the benefits of that research must be shared amongst all those who need it – regardless of what they can afford
