      Hi,

Well I don’t use animals in my research, and there are in fact skin infection models using an artificially created layer of skin with similar structure to skin. These are never perfect, as they often don’t have the immune response that an animal would, and it is the interplay between the immune system and the bacteria that have the greatest effect on an infection – in fact, it is sometimes your body’s own response to a bacterial infection that can cause some of the more serious aspects of the disease, as it triggers the bacteria to turn from ‘bad’ to ‘evil’!
