Hmm. I really do love my work. The best and worst part is that it can be all-consuming. It’s fun to get wrapped up in an idea and throw yourself whole-heartedly into figuring something out. But at the same time that requires a lot of work, a lot of hours and can keep you quite busy. So sometimes I don’t get to see my friends and family as often as I’d like. However, that’s why when I do get a chance to relax and break w/ them we have as much fun as possible.

The worst part of my job is all the administration and emails I have to deal with. I also hate having to order new chemicals and reagents and other things for my experiments – sometimes the catalogues of scientific materials are terrible to navigate, and you have to go through lots of hurdles to make orders. I’d rather just get on with experiments 😉

Oh…and sometimes the smell of the bacteria get on my nerves. They’re usually ok when they’re growing, but when you have to explode them all to get at their DNA, they can really smell!

Well the worst (and the best part) is when things don’t work. It’s really annoying when you don’t get the results you want and it means more work to try and find out why, and what the results mean. But at the same time this can be the most interesting part, I guess it would be pretty boring if everything just worked how it was mean to.
