• Question: When you were at school would you have still classed yourself as a geek? or weren't you as interested in science then as you are now?

I don’t think I considered myself a geek for most of my time at school. I did well in some subjects, like science, English and Geography, but I didn’t do as well in other subjects such as German, and I even found maths quite hard.

I was always interested in science, but I think when I was in years 7, 8 and 9 I didn’t think I was smart enough to actually become a scientist. As time went by and I got more time to study only science (like in my A-levels, and then at university) I realised I was really quite good at it, and the term ‘geek’ was one that I didn’t mind. I am a geek, and proud of it.
