I’m not really sure, but I would guess not. The issue with asthma is that it is a condition that has a number of factors that cause it. I think that some mild forms of the disease will be treatable to the point where you never have an attack. Other people actually grow out of it – I’ve got friends from school who had asthma, but in the 17 years since they left school, they’ve never once had an asthma attack.

I think treatments and preventative measures will continue to improve, as our knowledge of the factors that trigger asthma, and cause children to develop asthma improve, and it is via this approach that asthma will be most effectively be reduced in sufferers.

In *some* cases it might be possible to prevent it, and there have been arguments that the over sterility of our homes has a part to play in it, because as a species we have been exposed to ‘dirt’ in childhood for millions of years, and this is not only what we have evolved to cope with, but it is also what helps to educate our immune system to have a reasonable response to things in the environment, rather than over-reacting and triggering reactions such as asthma.
